We know when summer comes around, it can get expensive because you want to be out and about! That’s why we’ve come up with a list of FREE summer activities that you and your friends and family can enjoy!

1. Beach

This one may be obvious, but we want you to visit the most beautiful beaches SoCal has to offer! One of the most popular beaches we love is La Jolla cove! You can go sightseeing for sea lions in their natural habitat, or lay by Windansea beach and take a dip or watch the surfers catching a wave. Another beach is Moonlight State Beach in Del Mar! Not only is it a beautiful place to visit, but walking around Encinitas to grab some ice cream and look at shops is so much fun! Another suggestion is Mission Beach because there is always something going on, whether it’s people watching or walking around Belmont Park.

2. Free Movies Under the Stars

Grab your favorite blanket, look through your snack drawer and head to your local park! They show free summer movies in the park year-round, and there are so many participating locations. Make sure to come a little earlier so you can secure a good spot!

3. Farmers Market’s

Going to a Farmers Market is never a bad idea! Spend your day walking around and looking at every booth or stand to see what local vendors have to offer. There is also live music that makes it even more enjoyable! Best of all, it’s beautiful to see your community get together and support small businesses.

4. Mt. Laguna

A scenic drive through Mt. Laguna is such a great experience, and it’s not talked about enough. You can pack up a picnic of snacks you have in your kitchen, and it’s a plus if you have bicycles to ride through the mountain! You can spend all day there and watch the sunset if you’d like, and make a bonfire later on!

5. Free Summer Concerts

This summer is full of amazing live music! We found a list of free summer concerts to enjoy right in your own backyard. This is such a great activity to do with friends and family, and you can also meet new faces in your community.

Mother’s Day Brunch

Brunch is never a bad idea! Take your mom out to a fun brunch spot to catch up, and try amazing food. And have all your loved ones around. The top three brunch spots we recommend in San Diego are Rustic Root, Breakfast and Bubbles and Morning Glory. We also suggest booking a reservation beforehand so you’ll be worry-free on Mother’s Day. 

Spa Day

Taking your mom for a complete spa day is not only so relaxing, but she’ll remember it forever! There are many options, whether it’s a hot stone massage, an aromatherapy massage or a deep tissue massage. We suggest going to H2 Foot Spa & Massage.

Movie & Pizza Night

If you’re feeling a little more laid back this year, you can always keep it casual. You can’t go wrong with ordering pizza and binging all your mom’s favorite movies! You can also play card games like We’re not really strangers.  This game is purpose driven and all about empowering meaningful connections by asking deep questions. It’s a great way to have a more fulfilling connection with your mom! 

Picnic & Paint

It’s bound to be a beautiful day on Mother’s Day, so being outside is a must! Packing a picnic filled with all your mom’s favorite foods and desserts is the way to go. Even if you’re not artistic it’s still so fun to paint and do an activity that brings your creative side out. If you don’t feel like planning or don’t have time, you can also book a painting class where you can order food and have instructors guide you step-by-step. We recommend going to Pinot’s Palette in Liberty Station. They offer classes indoors and outdoors, and you also get to leave with the beautiful painting you created!
